Day 3

I'm starting day 3 of my eating right/ get my fat ass in shape challenge. I didn't walk yesterday because I had a blister on my foot. Well, that, and I didn't want to get arrested for violating university property (I kid, I kid...kindof), but I did go look at the new gym in town. We are going to join. It offers 24 hour access, as well as access to any club in the world. I'm excited. The gym is Anytime Fitness (check out the link- they're literally everywhere!), and while small, I think it will be a great fit. It has everything I want in a gym- freeweights, bikes, eliptical, treadmill, and a circuit area. It seems really safe and secure as well, so I am really excited about that- 3 am workouts, here I come!!!

I am also keeping a food journal. I'm finding that just knowing I am going to have to add an item to my list makes me think twice about its consumption. (Do I really need butter on my rice? Do I need to add that second teaspoon of jelly to my yogurt to make it palatable?) Throughout the day, I go through my list and assign calorie totals to the foods. So far, the greatest challenge has been finding a consistent calorie estimator, but I guess if I am mindful of my eating and consistent it should pay off, even if my numbers are a little "off". I am eating about 1300 calories per day, but I am not feeling hungry or crabby. In addition, I am taking a multivitamin to cover any possible deficiencies in my diet. I'm realizing that I really didn't eat that much "food" before, but the junk (mostly sodas and chocolate bars) was what killed me. At 330 calories per vanilla coke and over 1000 for a big huge chocolate bar, that's a LOT of empty calories! I am going to restrict calories pretty severely for the first 6-8 weeks, as a bit of a "jump start", then reevaluate to see what direction I need to take after that time period has passed. I do plan on a few "cheat nights" here and there, but mostly I just want to be much more selective about what I put into my body.

Well, I'm off to pay my enrollment dues! Later dudes!
